Manningham now has an opportunity to support those in our community suffering from a form of dementia. The Redgum Café located in the Manningham Uniting Church and Community Centre, in Wood Street Templestowe, has been accredited by Dementia Australia as being “Dementia Friendly.”
The Redgum Café has established an accessible and safe environment for people with dementia and their carers and families, with staff having successfully undertaken training to help people with a dementia diagnosis to enjoy a normal social and community connection.
A relaxed and friendly ambiance provides the perfect location to catch up with friends and enjoy refreshments and a light meal. The café also includes a children’s area and playground to enable families to enjoy time together. On site parking is available as is a driveway to drop off those with restricted mobility.
A support group for carers assisting people living with dementia meets in the café on a monthly basis – currently meeting on a Friday.
Note: As Friday’s group is established, new additional meeting days and times will be arranged for those wanting to attend and connect in.
