During the session we will hear from Anita Koochew from Eastern Community Legal Centre, Dr Kate Lawler (Physiotherapist) and Dr Courtney Shelton (Geriatrician and Research Fellow).

Key Speakers

Dr Kate Lawler is a physiotherapist who is passionate about excellent health care for older people, and particularly older people with dementia. She has worked as a clinical physiotherapist in hospital, rehabilitation and aged care services in Melbourne and Tasmania and now works in education and research at La Trobe University.

Dr Courtney Shelton is a consultant geriatrician and research fellow at Austin Health’s Medical and Cognitive Research Unit. Courtney has been involved in research and education in the field of neuroscience for over 18 years and has worked for almost a decade in public hospitals in Melbourne’s northeastern suburbs serving the community she and her family live in. Courtney is passionate about dementia prevention and ensuring people living with dementia receive holistic, person-centred care prioritising their individual needs and identity. When not working, Courtney enjoys spending time with her young son, doing pilates and learning French.

Anita Koochew is a dedicated community engagement and education professional at the Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) where she leads initiatives aimed at empowering diverse communities across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Anita is also active in public legal education, delivering webinars on topics such as Powers of Attorney and substitute decision-making, particularly supporting people with disabilities and their carers .
