Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him 13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.

Prayer
Thank you Jesus for overturning the status quo and taking my place on the cross. You suffered and died for my sake and the that of the whole world – past, present and future generations.
To Ponder
Jesus was becoming a threat to the status quo enjoyed by Caiaphas and the other Jewish authority figures. Caiaphas was also aware that Rome feared rebellion and was prepared to punish any signs of rebellion. As a result, Jesus became a convenient scapegoat to preserve the their authority and appease Rome. One man would die so they and others could carry on living. Little did they know how right they were. Jesus allowed himself to be killed for the sake of all people and for all time.
