This World Day of Prayer event is o rganised by the West Committee (which has three members from MUC) will be held at 8.00pm at Manningham Uniting Church Westfield Drive. The speaker on the occasion will be Maidie Graham, Manager of Uniting Wesley Homelessness and Support Services. Lauris Allen has graciously agreed to be our organist and Brian Parkinson to operate the sound and screen. Youth singers from the St Bishoy and St Shenouda Coptic Orthodox Church will be singing during the service.
The service this year has been prepared by the World Day of Prayer committee of Slovenia and is titled ‘Come – Everything is Ready’. It includes many issues of social concern including religious and racial discrimination, inequality of women in the work place, unemployment and poverty, risk of homelessness, alcoholism and resultant domestic violence and discrimination plus preconceived negative bias towards people belonging to small ethnic minorities. The committee felt that Maidie with her wide daily work experience would be an ideal person to cover these issues from an Australian perspective. Maidie has previously spoken at a Spectrum meeting where we were most impressed with the breadth of her knowledge on these matters.
