Somers Camp has been going for over 60 years. I was Camp Mum for 7 years and, whilst I don’t stay over for the whole week like I used to, I still help to train the leaders. I’d love to get some of our Manningham kids to the camp this year – the campers don’t just come from the Mornington Peninsula but from many different places like Albury, Ballarat, Geelong.
Over 100 children from school years 3 until 9 spend the week in a Christian camp with 40 trained leaders, camp nurse, camp parents and a team of cooks and wash up hosts called slushies. All volunteers and helpers have registered working with children checks and no-one is just accepted without being checked first.
The children play games, engage in age appropriate Bible studies and worship, and eat a lot of food. This year camp is running from 1st to 5th July – financial support is available if that is a problem so speak to me if you would like to go regardless of money.
What can you do to help? Firstly, pray for us and join other congregations who pray each year for sunshine, no injuries and for the Spirit to do her thing amongst the Somers community. Donations to the camp enable heavily assisted places to be offered to families who wouldn’t otherwise attend. Fundraising events are organised by leaders throughout the year – I have a huge box of chocolates to sell so come to the hub!
Check out the link below for more information or leaders will be coming to family@10 on 2 June to talk about the camp and how to get onboard.
