An opportunity for all the worshipping services to meet and worship together. There will be speakers from Uniting Lentara, Asylum Seeker Project.
Andi Jones from Lentara will be presenting at the MUC combined service at Atkinson Street on 17th March, 2019.
Andi Jones is very enthusiastic about telling us about the work that Lentara is involved with and we were very impressed. In Lentara’s Asylum Seeker Project, staff members case manage about 60 people who are seeking asylum, in 5 or 6 different accommodations scattered across Melbourne. Clients are without income of any sort, or work rights. Lentara gives them free accommodation, $100 per month and MYKI cards and pays utilities. The case managers visit them in their homes to support them In different ways.
Lentara also has the Welcome Centre, based in Brunswick, which runs many different activities such as English, art, meals, training on how to apply for employment and a community garden. It is open to any asylum seeker, regardless of whether they are being case managed or not. This is open each day Monday to Friday, and some Saturdays.
This service will be followed by morning tea.
