Prayer resource

This prayer resource is offered in the hope that it will sustain you whilst we are worshipping in different places. Just because we are not gathering together in one place as we would usually do on a Sunday morning, it doesn’t mean we aren’t gathering together as a community of faith and prayer. We will be adding to this resource over the next few days as members of our community write their own prayers and reflections. Please keep in touch…

In my back yard

Just been out to feed the animals and let them out in the paddock.  It’s so lovely how they are consistent every single morning – the hens are clucking away waiting the scraps and peelings, the bunnies are hopping around pleased they’re about to be fed and the pony is kicking the bottom fence panel as he feels he should be fed first.  Nothing changes in my backyard as far as they are concerned – situation normal in the midst…

Viral Kindness

Using this #viralkindness card extend love and support to your neighbours at this unsettling and difficult time. On Friday my kids and I placed the attached cards in our neighbours letter boxes complete with our contact details. Within 24 hours I was contacted by 2 of our elderly neighbours expressing their gratitude. In a time of great uncertainty and necessary social distancing and isolation you can not underestimate the power of kindness. We found the act of extending care and…

Farewell To The Fellowship Group

The Men’s Group of the Doncaster East Methodist Church was started in 1971 by the minister, Reverend Colin. We met on the first Tuesday of each month beginning with an evening meal at the Coffee Bean restaurant in Warrandyte followed by a guest speaker. The format of the meeting remained the same for many years through a number of significant changes – In 1977 we became part of the Uniting Church in Australia, in 2005 we amalgamated with the Deep…

Lent Reflection (week 5)

Reading Our reading this Sunday is Mark 13:1-8, 24-37 which describes how the temple was destroyed the Romans. (see bible reading here – Mark 13:1-8, Mark 13:24-37) Our symbol is a stone Stones remind us of Satan tempting Jesus in the desert, the stones thrown at people regarded as sinners, and Peter as the rock or foundation of the early church.  When the Romans destroyed the temple, they took the stones and used them elsewhere thus destroying the centre of…

Faith at Home – 22 March 2020

Lent 4, Sunday March 22 In the Gospel reading set for today, we hear the story of The Man Born Blind, (John 9:1 – 41). In the story Jesus claims “I am the Light of the World.” And the reading from Ephesians encourages Christians to live as Children of the Light. (Ephesians 5:8-14) Churches and cathedrals often have stained glass windows to enjoy the beauty of coloured light, or big plain glass windows that allow lots of natural light into…

Dear Friends, Greetings in the name of Christ. We are in unprecedented times and unchartered territory, as we are impacted by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  Decisions about how to respond are being made in very short time-frames.  The rapidly changing situation brings a wide range of challenges of a nature we have not faced before. Over the last days and weeks, we have received frequent updates and are heeding advice from Government and recognised expert public health authorities, as…

Sunday 22 March 2020 – Now it’s the scribes turn

One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’…
