What a great day our Knitters’ Group had for World Knitting Day.
Around 30 of all ages came along and enjoyed the fellowship of knitting together. We warmly welcomed five ladies who are not members of MUC, but came as a result of seeing our article in the Leader newspaper. Two others who responded to the article donated wool and needles.
A visitor, Judy, who is known as ‘the teddy bear lady’, came along with two big bags of teddies. She makes the teddies for distressed children in the Emergency Department of Box Hill Hospital (delivered by Don) and some also go to the refugee medical clinic at EACH East Ringwood.
Oliver had a go at finger knitting with the help of Nana Margaret, Tyler was taught to knit by Merrill (a visitor) and Maddie & Olivia made pom poms with Nana Helen. Everyone else knitted squares which will be used to make a blanket for a person in need.
A BIG thank you to all those who supported this event, which was a great success which we expect will be held annually.
In the meantime the Knitters’ Group meet on the last Monday of the month 1.30-3 p.m. to make warm garments for refugees and everyone is welcome.
