With Val Webb
Due to Covid-19, the PCNV is inviting you to join an online meeting on Sunday May 24 @ 4:00pm.
We are very fortunate to have author, scientist and theologian, DR VAL WEBB, as our speaker.
Val’s book, Florence Nightingale: The Making of a Radical Theologian is widely regarded as the definitive biography of this remarkable & complex nineteenth century ground-breaking woman. May 12, 2020, was the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
2020 is also the World Health Organisation’s International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, in acknowledgement of Florence’s contribution to humanity. Florence’s contribution, however, is far wider than nursing.
Val argues that Florence was first and foremost a woman with a divine call to help the poor. Florence belonged to an Order of one – herself. She was a liberationist, feminist, process and progressive theologian before these terms existed. Florence wrote a new religion for the poor, offering a ‘different’ God from the Church of England’s Victorian God, who ordained who would be rich or poor.
