Manningham Uniting Church announcement 22 July 2018
“As you have probably heard, the Uniting Church Assembly meeting resolved to allow its ministers the freedom to conduct or to refuse to conduct same-gender marriages.
“At our Church council meeting last week we discussed this decision and acknowledged that the Uniting Church holds two statements of belief; Marriage for Christians is the freely given consent and commitment in public and before God of a man and a woman to live together for life and the additional statement: Marriage for Christians is the freely given consent and commitment in public and before God of two people to live together for life.
The Assembly has stated ‘Church Councils will have the right to determine whether marriage services take place on their premises and at its meeting last week our Church Council accepted that marriage services that use either of the statements of belief will be allowed on our premises.
The Uniting Church is taking a bold move forward with this decision and we encourage you to have open conversations about your response to these changes. If anyone wishes to have further discussion please contact a member of the Ministry Team. Thanks”
