Our service began late as lots of people were finding it hard to secure a parking spot – but as we were assured – “it won’t be long and we will have our new building and parking will be ok”.
The Advent candles were lit as readers appeared from the east, west, north and south.
The service was led by Rev Claire with lots of singing of carols. Some words of some carols were a little different and it seemed Drew had to think about them!
We welcomed our friends from Melbourne United Methodist Church who contributed to the service. They are now worshipping at Templestowe Baptist Church as space is a little tight at Atkinson Street and we at MUC are needing more time on a Sunday for our programs. We said goodbye to our Methodist folk and presented them with a candle to take to their new place of worship.
Each person at our service was given a Christingle orange, which represents the world. Around it was a red ribbon it showing we are all united. Inserted into each were four toothpicks with a jelly baby on each one – each facing north, south, east and west representing that everyone is an important part of our world.
A candle was placed at the top of the orange and we were encouraged to light the candle on Christmas Day, around our dinner/tea table.
The evening concluded with sharing pizza on the veranda at Atkinson Street.
A very meaningful and happy service for all those who attended!
