The Manningham Freshies headed off to Camp Oasis in Mt. Evelyn for the annual FRESH CAMP. Where they met up with all the other Freshies from across the other 3 Fresh Youth Theatres. Over the three days the Freshies were given the opportunity to explore creatively through a number of different challenges. It started with our wide game, where two teams competed against each other to gain the most points by capturing pegs from each other. The teams came up with their own strategies trying to out-maneuver each other and gain the advantage, but ultimately it was Team ONE ONE ONE, who won, 64 – 57.
Day 2 was all about learning how to take risks and being comfortable with failing. In their small groups the Freshies were tasked with creating a short film with the core element being a moment of failure. Each group had to write, storyboard, film and edit their film all in one afternoon! The films were presented to everyone with lots of laughs to be had. Day 2 concluded with an Improvised Games Competition, Freshies were split into two teams and competed for points through short improvisational games inc. transforming props, telling monologues and pretending to be furniture! Even more laughs were had and at this point I think I’ve spent more time on camp laughing than not!
Our third and final day included small group discussions about what goals the Freshies have for the future and what they’ve learnt about themselves and each other of the last 3 days. Then we headed to Lillydale Lake for some delicious Fish and Chips, and set off home, counting down the days until Fresh Camp next year.
