On Sunday 29 September, over 30 folk from MUC gathered at Chris and Tricia’s place to support a Great Outback BBQ to help Australian farmers doing it tough. It was a beautiful day for the event and those attending had a wonderful time of fellowship as they enjoyed barbequed sausages, slices and an array of beverages.
The event is promoted by Frontier Services, an agency of the Uniting Church specifically focussed on assisting those in regional and remote areas of the country. The proceeds from the annual Great Outback BBQ all go to support the work of Frontier Services in providing direct assistance to farmers. With many parts of Australia suffering from drought the funds raised will be used to provide critical care to those struggling because of the seasonal conditions or suffering from mental illness or social isolation.
The MUC Great Outback BBQ raised $740 and retiring offerings at morning services resulted in a further approximately $850 being donated, giving a total of almost $1600 going from MUC to Frontier Services. This is a great result and many thanks to all those who attended or contributed in some way, and particularly to the Mission Portfolio for organising the events.
