On March 17, 2019 a Manningham Uniting Church had a combined service (all worshipping service worshipped together).
Andi Jones from Lentara was the guest speaker providing an insight into the work of Lentara
Andi Jones was very enthusiastic about telling us about the work that Lentara is involved with and we were very impressed. In Lentara’s Asylum Seeker Project, staff members case manage about 60 people who are seeking asylum, in 5 or 6 different accommodations scattered across Melbourne. Clients are without income of any sort, or work rights. Lentara gives them free accommodation, $100 per month and MYKI cards and pays utilities. The case managers visit them in their homes to support them In different ways.
Lentara also has the Welcome Centre, based in Brunswick, which runs many different activities such as English, art, meals, training on how to apply for employment and a community garden. It is open to any asylum seeker, regardless of whether they are being case managed or not. This is open each day Monday to Friday, and some Saturdays.
