On the 30 September, across our worship services we collected a retiring offering to support the Doncaster Secondary College staff Oxfam Trailwalkers Team.
In March 2019, a team of 8 Doncaster Secondary College Staff will walk 100km together in under 36 hours to raise money for Oxfam to help people living in poverty all over the world.
We at MUC recognised this as an opportunity to encourage and affirm the efforts of the local community we are a part of that will be participating in this extraordinary challenge.
MUC donated a total amount of $316 to the team.
The teams fundraising efforts aims to help Oxfam:
- Fund long-term, sustainable projects – a hand up helps more than handouts.
- Respond to emergencies by delivering aid, clean water, hygiene kits and shelter. Oxfam also helps people prepare for future crises.
- Campaign for change. Long-term progress for people affected by poverty demands more than on-the-ground support – it also requires political change.
Thank you to all those who contributed to this donation, it has been most gratefully received by the team.
One of the staff and team members had this to say about our donation:
“Thank you so much to you and the Manningham Uniting Church Community. This really means a lot to the whole team and they were super pumped when I let them know what you had all done for us. I know the money is going to go to great use.
Your ongoing support of our whole school community is greatly appreciated
